Monteagle/Sewanee Hunger Walk
Welcome to the Fourth Annual Hunger Walk!
Saturday, September 1st
Did you know that in 2014 it was estimated that in Franklin County 13.3% of the population (5,480 people) were suffering from Food Insecurity or do not have access to adequate nutritious food; in Marion County this is estimated at 14.6% (4,110 people); while in Grundy County TN the percentage increases to 17.8% (2,460 people). Together in our tri-county area that means there are over 12,000 people who do not have access to access to adequate nutritious food. This problem does not only affect our area- 14.3% of families nationwide struggle with food insecurity.
There are numerous organizations that have dedicated themselves to addressing the problem of food insecurity in our community, Morton Memorial and the CAC are just two of them. Through our joint effort in the second annual Hunger Walk, we hope to raise awareness about these hunger issues as well as raise money to help end them.
How YOU can help
The easiest way to help out is to register to walk! Registration is free for kids under 12, $15 for students and $25 for adults. You can register to walk by clicking the big, blue “register now!” button at the top of this page.
Another option to support The Hunger Walk is to be a community partner through sponsorships. By donating $250, businesses and individuals can become sponsors and have their logo/name featured on Hunger Walk posters and participant T-shirts!
Of course, any donations are welcome! Let’s fight together to end hunger in our community!
